To date, users have been able to ask Google Assistant to play their top songs and music-filled playlists on Spotify. Now, we’ve expanded the feature to include your favorite binge-worthy podcasts. All you need to do is utter the simple phrase “Ok Google, play. ” and then follow it up with your podcast of choice to continue listening. Although Google Play Music is the default music provider on Home speaker, you can also voice control your free and premium Spotify on Google Home with ease. If you are a registered Spotify music addict who purchased a new Google Home Mini, you might be eager to use Spotify on Google Home for listening favorite albums, such as Drake's Scorpion.
Although Google provides its own music service known as Google Play Music, it however allows users to play songs from other music providers, like Spotify with Google Home, Google's voice-controlled smart speaker. If you are Spotify subscriber who just bought a new Google Home, you may be eager to play Spotify music with the smart device. To make it easier for you, here we put together all the steps on how to set up Google Home to play Spotify songs and playlists. In case Google Home won't play Spotify music properly sometimes, we'll introduce an ultimate solution to that problem as well.
Part 1. Link Spotify to Google Home
Google Home supports both free and premium Spotify accounts now. You can follow this instruction to set up Google Home and link Spotify account to it.
Google Play Store Spotify
Step 1. Install and open the Google Home app on your phone.

Step 2. Tap the menu in the top-left corner, then Account preferences - Linked media accounts.
Step 3. Select Spotify and tap Link Account, then Log in to Spotify.
Step 4. Enter your account details to log in your Spotify. Tap OKAY to confirm.
Note: You can only link one Spotify account to your Google Home.
Part 2. Play Spotify Music on Google Home
Once you've linked Spotify account to Google Home, you can set Spotify as your default player so you don't need to specify 'on Spotify' each time when you need to play Spotify music on Google Home. To have it done, you can simply ask Google Home to play the music and it will give you the option. Say 'yes' to agree.
To play Spotify music with Google Home, you can use the voice commands by saying, 'OK, Google', then ..
- 'Play [song name by artist name]' to request a Song.
- 'Stop' to stop the music.
- 'Pause' to pause the music.
- 'Set volume to [level]' to control the volume.
Part 3. What If Spotify Not Playing on Google Home?
It's easy to listen to Spotify music via Google Home. Is stations on spotify free. However, you may still meet some unexpected problems in using it. For example, you may find sometimes Google Home won't respond when you tell it to play something on Spotify. Or it keeps showing 'connecting' when you try to link Spotify to Google Home. Unfortunately, there are not official solutions to those issues yet.

After that, you can upload those offline tracks to Google Play Music account so that you can easily play the songs on Google Home via the default Google Play Music instead of Spotify. Once the Spotify songs are downloaded, you can move them to Google Play Music by following the steps below:
Step 1. Go to Google Play website and login to your Google account.
Step 2. Click Upload Music in the upper right-hand corner. You'll be prompted to download the Music Manager. If you've already got it, then simply open it up and sign in with your Google account.
Step 3. Select Menu > Upload songs to Google Play, and hit Next.
Step 4. Then you will be asked where to keep your music collection. Select Other Folder and then Next. Now navigate to the folder where you stored the offline Spotify songs from the popup window and follow the instructions. The Music Manager will automatically upload any songs you put inside that folder to Google Play.
Spotify premium app help. Once done, open your Google Home and you'll be able to play the downloaded Spotify songs from Google Play account.
Spotify Free Google Home

Here, we cover how to unlink Spotify from Google Home speaker devices. You may wish unlink (remove, delete) your Spotify account from a Google Home Speaker because either:
- You’ve cancelled your Spotify subscription, and just want to get rid of its remnants from your Google Home app settings, to minimize clutter.
- You’re giving the device to your parent, and wish to prevent him / her from learning what you listen to on Spotify. Yet you still wish to allow access to other music services set up on your Google account.
- You like different versions of music than what Spotify offers, and so, you temporarily wish to remove Spotify from your list of searchable music sources. Then, the songs you request will not be found by Google Home on Spotify, but instead, on one or more of your other active music services, which DO offer your desired song versions.
How to Unlink Spotify from Google Home: First Considerations
These unlink instructions assume that you’ve previously set up and linked a Spotify account to your Google Home assistant. If you have not, then you do not yet require this information. But if so, then read on.
So, to get your tablet ready for this work, be sure the Google Home app has been installed and linked to the Google account on which the Spotify account you wish to unlink is configured. Then, perform the following instructions:
How to Unlink Spotify from Google Home
1. Find the Google Home App on your Tablet
On our iOS based iPad, this app is located on page three of the home screen, as illustrated in the next picture by the pink arrow.
2. Run the Google Home App
Tap the Google Home app icon on the tablet home screen. After a short pause, the app displays itshome screen, as shown next.
3. Tap the Hamburger Link

Located in the top left corner of the home screen, as pointed at by the pink arrow in the previous picture. The Google Home app then displays its main menu, as shown next.
4. Tap the Music Link on the Main Menu Screen to Continue with How to Unlink Spotify from Google Home
Find this link, pointed at by the pink arrow in the just previous picture. The Music Service Choices screen then appears, as shown below.
5. Tap the Unlink item in the Music Services list for Spotify
This is shown in the previous picture.
Then, you get the Spotify Unlink Confirmation screen as shown next.
6. Finally, tap the UNLINK Button
Find that in the confirmation window shown above, as pointed at by the pink arrow. This removes your Spotify account information from the Google Home app and associated speaker devices, and then returns you to the Music Service Choices screen, as displayed in the next step.
If however, you encounter an error message, someone else, who shares your Google account, may have already deleted your Spotify profile from it for you. If concerned, check with anyone who has access, just to be certain that the information was not removed due to any sort of security breach.
7. Check that the Google Spotify Music Service is Now Unlinked from your Spotify Account
On the Music Service Choices screen, find the Spotify entry and look just beneath it. If you see a blue LINKoption, then your Spotify account information has indeed been successfully purged from Google Home. See the next picture for the location of that link, as indicated by the pink arrow.
However, if this link still displays as UNLINK, then the information was not properly removed. In that case, jump back up to step 1, and try running through this procedure again, paying close attention to any error messages that might appear along the way.
You can also verify that your Google Home speaker no longer plays music on Spotify, by requesting a song through it, from Spotify. For example, try something like
“Okay Google, play Christmas Medley by Neil Diamond on Spotify.”
If your Spotify profile has successfully been removed from the Google Home assistant, she’ll say back,
“Your music account needs to be linked first. You can do that in the Google Home app.”
8. Done with How to Unlink Spotify from Google Home!
But if you experience a change of heart, and would like to reinstate Spotify streaming on your Google smart speakers, then simply add back your Spotify account info into Google Home.
